Journal Totalitarianism and Democracy

Totalitarismus und Demokratie / Totalitarianism and Democracy (TD) serves as an international forum for comparative, historical and present-day research into non-democratic systems and movements. Taking the two German dictatorships of the 20th century as the point of departure, conditions for the emergence of autocratic systems within and outside Europe, their modes of operation and impacts are comparatively analysed. In addition, historical-political, socio-psychological and cultural constellations, conditions and tendencies are explored that promote the spirit and realisation of free democratic societies. The journal serves as a forum for interdisciplinary exchanges between history, political science, sociology, psychology, education, religious studies and philosophy.

Since 2020 the journal has been published in cooperation with the political science information service POLLUX and the Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht publishing house. Open Access
