Background Talk: The Documenta and the GDR
Dr. Alexia Pooth conducts research on the history of the Documenta as an associate scientist at the HAIT. From the very beginning, the international art exhibition in Kassel was an event that provoked political conflicts - until today. In the early days, the Cold War in particular determined the climate of the exhibition. The confrontation with Socialist Realism shaped the development of the Documenta, especially in the early years. In her project, Alexia Pooth investigates the influence of East German artists and how the exhibitions were received in the GDR. The project is funded by the Gerda Henkel Foundation. In an interview with the foundation, Alexia Pooth explains the background of the project in detail.
The interview can be accessed on the website of the Gerda Henkel Foundation.
