Transformation research from an internationally comparative perspective

The task of this research area is the comparative and interdisciplinary study of transformation processes in Germany and Central Europe, particularly in regard to transformation processes simultaneously occurring in Western Europe (‘Co-Transformations’: Philipp Ther). Besides the upheavals of 1989-90, European transformation processes throughout the 20th century are examined from a comparative perspective. The HAIT sees its contribution to current transformation research to lie in its interdisciplinary, transnational and diachronic approach to political turning points and social transformation processes from 1918 to the present and to their impact on the affected societies and people.
